Maths Collage

In maths we are learning to measure accurately. We worked in small groups to create a maths collage. We had to use a ruler to measure pieces of card to make into a collage. Each piece of card had to be 3cm wide but could be any length.

We know that to measure accurately using a ruler we need to start measuring at the first line (which is zero) and stop measuring at the end of our object. We are learning to measure using cm which means centimeters.

Working in groups and talking about our learning means:
  • everyone has a turn sharing ideas
  • one person talks at a time
  • when someone is talking we listen and think about what they are saying
  • we can argue using our manners - when we disagree or have a different idea we can say "I think ....."
Check out the great math collage creations

  1. I wondered why you had been measuring everything with the tape measure at home Caitlin, then I came into class this morning and saw your great work. You had talked to me about why you couldn't see cm"s on the tape measure then you were super excited when I showed you that there were and you started measuring all sorts of things and writing down your results. Great sharing of your thoughts and ideas Caitlin. I love that we can share what you are learning in Funtastic Room 14 at home. What else can you show me Caitlin??

  4. What a good idea, Room 14, to combine art and maths to learn how to measure accurately.
