Journey Through the Legends

Last week we were invited by Nga Rakau Nui (the senior children) to watch their production ‘Journey through the Legends’. It was an amazing performance and we were kept entertained with the awesome acting, singing and dancing.  We wrote letters to Room 11 (our buddy class) to give them feedback on their performances.

Thank you for doing an amazing show. My favourite part was the legend of Te Mata Peak. Hinerakau was beautiful. You all took risks in performing in front of the school.
From Ekrose.

Thank you for showing us the stories. I liked the story of Te Mata Peak. I liked the part when Rongokako bit a rock and choked and died. You all did your personal best in your parts.

From Zack.

Thank you for telling the story of the Seven Whales. My favourite part was the Kapa Haka. It was my favourite part because it was strong and not slack. You all did your personal best all through it.

Sunday Chutney writing

We read the book called Sunday Chutney, a story about how a little girl called Sunday Chutney is different than everyone else in her class.

Check out what these clever authors wrote:

Author Zack wrote:

I’m Zack and I’m a little bit different than you. Guess what? I have a different last name than my mum, my brother and sister. I enjoy reading magic books and flip books. I am interested in karate. I’m really good at rugby. I like tricks. I don’t like girls but I think Mrs Ramsay is cool. I love my family. Sometimes, I feel like no one likes me though because people are sometimes mean to me. If I could have any wish it would have to be to have 500 dollars.

Author Cloe wrote:

I’m Cloe and I’m a little bit different than you. Guess what? I enjoy parties. My interests are finding new friends. I am really good at art. I like playing outside on the trampoline with Sapphire and Emma. I jump up then land on my bottom and get up without my hands or my sisters helping me up. I don’t like white spaghetti. I love pancakes and Mum and Dad. I feel sad when people die. If I could have one wish I would wish for heaps of lollies that I can give out to the class.

Author Ethan wrote:

I'm Ethan and I am a little bit different than you. Guess what? I can go so fast with my shoes off. I enjoy racing kids across the field to the pool fence. Maybe, I can have a race with Rebekah. I wish I could eat spaghetti and cheese every day because its delicious.

Author Jordan wrote:

I’m Jordan. I am a little bit different. Guess what? I am a bit interested in being an SPCA shop keeper. I am enjoying being in Room 14 with my favourite teacher that is Mrs Ramsay. I am really good at looking after my pet cat. He is really funny and his name is Jimmy. I like my brother because he looked after me when I was a baby. I do not like big bullies because they are mean. I love my mum and cat and my brother. I feel safe in our Room 14 learning whanau. If I had one wish it is going to Australia to have a look around Australia.

Author Jack wrote:

I’m Jack and I’m a bit different than you. Guess what? My eyes work different than yours. I have a twin sister called Ashley. I’m interested in dogs and rabbits, trains and jet planes. I’m very good at art. I love dogs and rabbits. I don’t like pasta with sauce. Sometimes I feel lonely because Ashley is mean and says I can’t play. One wish I have is to be in the Thunder Birds. They are a jet plane team. They fly around the world putting on shows.

Author Charlie wrote:

I’m Charlie. I’m a little bit different than you. Guess what? My dad works on the other side of the world. I’m interested in performing as a narrator in some more plays. I’m really good at helping people that are crying. I like playing rugby with my team mates. I don’t like it when my dad goes to work. I love my mum and dad. Sometimes, I feel sad because there are bullies. If I could have one wish it would be to live in Australia where it’s warm.

Author Hannah wrote:

I’m Hannah and I’m a little bit different than you. Guess what? I don’t have any brothers or sisters but I do have 5 pets and my pets are called Lilly, Jazzy, Christmas, Rosie and Kowhai. My interests are playing netball and doing gymnastics. I am good at doing back flips on the trampoline. I like learning about guinea pigs because they are cute. Something I don’t like is when I eat gherkins my eyes swell up because I am allergic to them. Something I love is my family! If I could have one wish I would like to rent my dad’s double bed so I don’t fall out of bed.

Author Rebekah wrote:

Artists in Residence In Room 14

Miss Morris and Mrs Ramsay love working alongside Room 14 tamariki as we explore and create in Visual Arts.

In Visual Arts we learn the elements and techniques of art creating but its also a very effective way to display our learning from other areas of the Curriculum. As we work through creating our artworks we learn that good things take time and effort. Visual art creating is a fantastic way to develop patience, perseverance, commitment and determination as tamariki complete a project over several learning sessions.

Check out these amazing pieces of art created by Room 14 tamariki.

Our owls showcase our learning in using different materials to create texture. Twoot twoo....

The Zebras demonstrate how we can use collage and different materials to create animals with different textures and links into our learning about repeating patterns in maths.

We used different tools, materials and techniques with line and shape to share what we have been learning in dance with our organic dancing shapes.

These fantastic clowns show our learning about symmetry and reflection in maths.

Giraffe's Can't Dance

What an amazing time we all had performing Giraffes Can't Dance at Assembly last week.
I was so proud of all of you!   Well done! From Mrs R

Have You Filled A Bucket Today?

We read the book called Have You Filled a Bucket Today? by Carol McCloud. It is a story about being kind and caring towards others and how that makes everyone feel happy. Today, we wrote about a time when we have filled someone's bucket.

Check out what these authors wrote:

Author Cahlia wrote:
On Sunday, I went to my Grandma’s house. When I was there I helped paint the doors. My mum felt happy and I filled Mum’s bucket and I was proud of myself and it filled my own bucket.

Author Dom wrote:
On Sunday, I filled Ryan’s bucket because I made him a card that said Happy Birthday. When I gave him the card he felt happy because he smiled. I felt happy too.

Author Ekrose wrote:
On Sunday, I filled my mum’s bucket because I spent some time with her and we went shopping. She felt happy because she got to spend some time with me too.

Author Ethan wrote:
Before school, I filled Caitlin and Rebekah’s buckets because I shared my cars with them. I felt happy because I was sharing. Caitlin and Rebekah smiled too.

Author Balin wrote:
Last Mothers’ Day I filled my mum’s bucket by giving her a foot massage and rubbing some cream on her feet. It made her feel relaxed and happy and it made me feel helpful when I saw her smile.

Author Cloe wrote:
Yesterday, I filled my sister’s bucket because I gave her a gumball and after I gave her a gumball she said, “Do you want to go on my computer?” And I said, “yes” and that filled my bucket. She was really happy and then she said, “You can stay on the computer as long as you want,” and so I stayed on the computer all day. I knew how Sapphire felt because she smiled at me and I knew that I had filled her bucket. I felt happy too.

Author Harlem wrote:
In the weekend, on Sunday, I filled my mums bucket up doing the lawns so she could look after Eva. I saw her doing the lawns so I said, “Can I do the lawns, Mum?” “Yes,” said Mum with a smile on her face.

Author Jordan wrote:
On Sunday I filled my dad’s bucket by helping him stain some wood for a new veranda. We worked together to stain the wood. We had to stain the wood with a big paint brush. I stained the wood, it was fun. We had to do big strokes instead of little strokes because it will not paint much and if we did scribbles it will look like a baby was scribbling with the stain.

Rebekah wrote:
After school on Monday, last week, I filled my mum and dad’s buckets when I washed their sparkly red and yellow car. When my mum and dad had a date, Mum went to the car and said, “Oh, goody good, now my job is complete. You have really filled my bucket!”

Fraction Ladybugs

We have been learning about fractions. Check out our fraction ladybugs that show how we can split a whole number into 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 1/5 and 1/8.

We used the fotobabble AP on the iPAD to share our learning. We were very lucky to have Cameron (a digi leader) from Room 6 to teach us how to use fotobabble - thank you Cameron! Click on the little arrow at the bottom of each picture to hear what our mathematicians have to share.
